Burke & Wills Bridge over Cooper Creek on the Innamincka Road in South West Queensland, near the South Australia border.

The Burke & Wills Bridge over the Copper Creek on the Innamincka Road was recently overtopped during the floods that occurred between January and April 2010. Flood levels rose to within 0.5m of the highest record flood event in 1974. Significant scouring occurred to the creek bed, bridge protection works and the approaches to the bridge. A Department of Main Roads hydraulic engineer is currently examining the required remedial works for the bridge approaches and piers.

Bulloo Shire Council is currently working on bitumen sealing the remaining 100km of the Innamincka Road to the South Australian border at a cost of approximately $25M. Currently about 50km have been completed with the remainder to be complete by 2012/13. The flooding of the Cooper Creek has delayed the project by 5 months. Brandon and Associates are providing engineering and project management services to Bulloo Shire Council for this project.
